How Fast Can You Get a Business Loan? Typical Timelines by Type
How fast you can get business funding depends mostly on the type of funding and how complete your file is. Some options can fund within days. Others take weeks or months. Here is what to expect, and what you can do to move faster.
Typical timelines
| Type of funding | Typical time to funds | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue-based funding | Within days of a complete file | Fastest, usually the most expensive |
| Online term loan | A few days to two weeks | Moderate cost, fixed payments |
| Business line of credit | About one to three weeks | Flexible, needs stronger history |
| Equipment financing | Days to a few weeks | Tied to the equipment being bought |
| Bank loan | Several weeks or more | Lower cost, more paperwork |
| SBA loan | Often one to three months | Lowest cost, slowest |
These are typical ranges, not promises. Every file and every funder is different.
What slows funding down
- Missing or partial bank statements. The most common delay. Funders usually want the last three to four full months.
- Information that does not match. A business name, address or owner detail that differs between the application and the bank records.
- Existing advances or loans. Open balances get a closer look, and the funder may need payoff details.
- Verification calls. Most funders call to confirm details before funding. Missing that call can add a day or more.
How to get funded faster
- Download your last four months of business bank statements as PDFs straight from your bank.
- Have a photo ID and a voided business check ready.
- Make sure the business name and address match your bank account.
- List any loans or advances you are currently paying on.
- Answer the verification call, and check your email for the agreement once it is sent.
Fast, but read before you sign
The fastest options usually cost the most. Before you sign, look at the total amount you will pay back and the size of each payment, not only how quickly the money arrives. If you have a little more time, a slower option may save real money.
